The International Training Week at Paramonovo concluded on Saturday, and yesterday the organizers provided a day trip to Moscow and a welcome event at the hotel, complete with Russian folk music and dancing.
Today is the first day of Official Training. Every athlete will get seven final training runs between now and Wednesday, with the first Junior World Cup taking place on Thursday. We still have not seen the sun since arriving in Russia, but instead of the warmest winter on record, things are looking more like I expected them to be. Namely, it has begun snowing. It started early this morning and has snowed continuously. Temperatures are now in the 20s, compared to the 40s last week.
Our internet situation has improved. Not at the hotel, but at the track. Some more connections were installed here this afternoon, and we put in our first Internet-friendly study hall, which just wrapped up thirty minutes ago. We will do the same tomorrow. So if you have emails you want to send to any of the athletes, I'm sure that they will be able to read them tomorrow.

Dear Keith -- Thanks again for the chance to meet the team last week. Glad to hear that you have an improved Internet situation, and I'm especially delighted that a real Russian winter has set in for you -- below freezing temps predicted for the next 10 days. I have been doing a bit on on-line research: I now know all about Muskegon resident Mark Grimette, and most important I have watched the YouTube promo video for the Muskegon luge run and plan to try it out myself when I'm back in town January 10-11. Good luck to the whole team in the upcoming competition!
